Dr. Schmid currently holds the position of translational research director at the Gene Therapy Program at the University of Pennsylvania. His group is developing gene replacement strategies for neurodevelopmental disorders. His main focus over the last years has been CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder and Rett syndrome but he is also using similar strategies for related diseases. Dr. Schmid received his PhD at the University of North Carolina. He received post-doctral training in Neuroscience and worked as senior scientist at Novartis, the Duke University Center for Drug Discovery and the University of North Carolina Neuroscience Center, focusing on basic and translational research for neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases.
